In August 1992, the Lord began to lay a burden on the heart of Marie Collins for the needy to have a place to come for help with food and clothing - a place where the gospel of Jesus Christ would be shared. With God’s leading, Marie began "In His Name - A Storehouse For Those In Need" January 12, 1993.
The Lord provided a place for the Storehouse to operate on Yadkin Valley Road, in Advance, NC, through the generosity of Maryjane Barefoot, who graciously allowed her old family home-place to be used by the Storehouse without charge for 3 years. With the support and encouragement of Marie’s husband, John, as well as from church members, Marie began to serve the needy, in March 1993.
The name of the ministry changed to "A Storehouse For Jesus" in May 1994, when the ministry was incorporated.
By August 1995, the ministry had outgrown the old farmhouse and a much larger building was needed. God answered prayers through Ann Barber, who allowed the ministry to operate from the Martin Hardware Building on Depot Street, in Mocksville, NC. Mrs. Barber also graciously donated the use of the building without charge for 3 years. A Storehouse For Jesus reopened to the public in its new location in January 1996. By December 1998, enough money had been donated to make a down payment on the building. The building was paid in full in January 2001!
In October 2000, the Storehouse opened a Thursday night Free Medical Clinic for Davie County residents who are uninsured and unable to receive medical help from any other source. Since Fall 2000, the Storehouse has been offering the services of the Medication Assistance Program (MAP). MAP allows us to order free medications for qualifying patients. Many times people go without their medications in order to eat - or go without food in order to buy their medications. The Pharmacy received its license from the N.C. Pharmacy Board in December 2001.
With the increase of clients through the years, the addition of the Free Medical and Dental Clinics and Pharmacy, the Storehouse has again outgrown its current location. In March 2003, thanks to a generous donation, the Storehouse purchased 5.74 acres on Highway 64, in Mocksville, for the purpose of building a larger facility to house the Storehouse’s growing ministry to the needy in Davie and surrounding counties. We request your prayers as we step out in faith in this new endeavor
The Storehouse is a completely volunteer ministry - no one has ever received a salary. We have been blessed to grow from a volunteer staff of 1 the first 2 years, to over 160 volunteers in 2003!
All items are given away at the Storehouse - nothing is sold.
